DKSM Web Design & Consulting Firm  Phishing Prevention Checklist

1. Inspect the Sender

- Double-check the sender’s email address—look for small changes or misspellings. - Be suspicious of emails from unknown contacts or unexpected sources.

2. Examine the Message Content

- Look for poor grammar, spelling errors, or generic greetings (“Dear User”). - Watch for urgent language (“Act now!” “Your account will be closed!”).

3. Check for Suspicious Links & Attachments

- Hover over links (don’t click!) to preview the actual URL—does it match the sender’s company?

- Never download or open unexpected attachments, even from familiar contacts.

4. Verify Requests for Sensitive Information

- Legitimate companies will never ask for passwords, bank details, or personal info via email.

- If in doubt, contact the company directly using a known, official phone number or website.

5. Look for Branding Inconsistencies

- Check for odd logos, mismatched colors, or formatting errors in the email. - Be wary of emails with missing or incorrect company branding.

6. Trust Your Instincts

- If something feels off, it probably is—don’t act on suspicious emails.

7. Report & Delete

- Report suspected phishing emails to your IT support or designated contact. - Delete the email from your inbox and trash folder.

Quick Tips

- Enable spam filters and keep them updated.

- Use multi-factor authentication (MFA) wherever possible.

- Regularly update passwords and avoid reusing them across sites.
